The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) received an award of $5,000 from Corporate Traffic Logistics to support a new program that benefits local veterans in northeast Florida called Paws & Stripes. Corporate Traffic Logistics is an asset-based third-party logistics company family-owned and headquartered in Jacksonville since 1992.
The $5,000 will provide support for the JHS Paws & Stripes program, a unique volunteer and workforce development opportunity for current and former members of the United States military. Paws & Stripes fills a gap for certain animals at JHS and provides a specialized opportunity for veterans.
Dogs and cats often suffer from stress in the shelter, which leads to anxious behaviors, making them difficult to adopt. The main cause of the seemingly negative behaviors is due to living in a stressful setting, which is relatable for veterans. The greatest way to help each pet is through individualized enrichment and training; however, staff time is limited and not every volunteer is suited for this work. Paws & Stripes is a valuable solution that pairs veterans with these animals to support their adoption.
Paws & Stripes also helps remove roadblocks for veterans who are looking for new careers in animal welfare. The program offers workforce development training for military members or veterans who are transitioning to civilian life and need support for a new career. Participants will be among the first considered for employment at JHS and have access to JHS’s vast network in animal welfare.
“We are excited to be a partner in such a great program that provides valuable workforce training for our veterans and active-duty military in the Jacksonville area,” said Chris Cline, president of Corporate Traffic Logistics. “As a longtime supporter of veteran and animal welfare causes, this program was a natural fit for our ongoing community support initiatives.”
“We are so thankful for the support of Corporate Traffic Logistics in recognition of this community program. JHS is excited to offer opportunities to Jacksonville’s veterans while continuing our lifesaving work in the community,” said Denise Deisler, JHS CEO.
