February 21, 2024 Josh Hall: My Internship Experience

My internship at Corporate Traffic Logistics has been an incredible journey, providing me with a unique and immersive opportunity to explore the freight brokerage industry alongside a team of logistics professionals who are genuinely invested in my growth. Over the course of this semester, I’ve faced challenges that have pushed me to learn and adapt, while also gaining firsthand insight into the complexities of the logistics world.

Before joining CTL, my understanding of the logistics industry was minimal. However, the comprehensive training provided on-site, along with the dedication of managers who took the time to mentor me, has been invaluable. I’ve learned key aspects of freight brokerage, from using sophisticated systems for tracking and tracing shipments to assigning rates and managing communication with carriers and customers. Working directly with the same software that logistics professionals rely on daily has not only boosted my technical confidence but also reinforced my belief that I can thrive in this fast-paced environment.

One of the highlights of my experience was being involved with two different teams that specialize in distinct freight types. I had the chance to explore a variety of shipping modes offered by CTL, from dry vans carrying everyday goods to multimodal and drayage services moving freight through the Jacksonville ports. This exposure has been eye-opening, and I now find myself paying closer attention to trucks on highways and ports I pass, with a deeper understanding of the systems and professionals that keep it all running smoothly.

Another rewarding aspect of my internship has been CTL’s strong commitment to community engagement. I was pleasantly surprised by how active the company is in giving back. In just a few months, I had the privilege of participating in several charity and nonprofit events organized by CTL. One of the most meaningful experiences for me was volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club in Atlantic Beach, an opportunity that left a lasting impression.

In addition to the technical aspects of logistics, I also had the chance to learn about the marketing, communications, and recruiting efforts that play a vital role in this industry. Logistics is, above all, a people-driven business, and understanding how relationships are fostered and maintained has been a crucial part of my learning experience.

Looking back, this internship has provided me with a well-rounded foundation in the logistics field, and I’m eager to apply the knowledge and skills I’ve gained to my future career. I wholeheartedly recommend CTL to anyone considering an internship or full-time role in the logistics industry. It’s an environment that fosters both professional and personal growth, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.
