May 5, 2025 Getting ready for 2025 DOT Blitz Week with CT

Every spring, the trucking industry prepares for International Road Check Week, also known as DOT Blitz Week, a key safety initiative that affects carriers, drivers and logistics operations across North America. This year, the event runs from May 13–15 and will specifically focus on Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, which govern how long drivers can be on the road before resting.

Led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and supported by agencies in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Road Check Week is a coordinated, continent-wide inspection effort designed to improve safety in commercial trucking.

During these 72 hours, tens of thousands of commercial vehicles will be stopped at an average rate of 15 inspections per minute for detailed inspections, making it the largest and most intensive inspection event of the year.

What Inspections Involve

During DOT Blitz Week, inspectors will conduct Level I Inspections, a rigorous 37-step process that examines both the driver and the vehicle. These inspections cover:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Medical examiner’s certificate
  • Record of Duty Status (RODS)
  • ELD (Electronic Logging Device) compliance
  • Vehicle condition, including brakes, tires, lights, and more

HOS violations are serious, and drivers found out of compliance may be placed out of service on the spot, resulting in delays, fines and disruptions in the supply chain.

Why HOS Compliance Matters

The CVSA selected Hours of Service as the focus for 2025 to address one of the most common and most preventable driver-related violations. These regulations are designed to combat driver fatigue and ensure safety for everyone on the road.

Key HOS requirements include:

  • Maximum daily and weekly driving limits
  • Required rest breaks
  • Minimum off-duty periods between shifts

Even minor oversights like outdated logbooks or improper use of ELDs can lead to violations, negatively impacting a carrier’s CSA score and your freight’s on-time performance.
